Mathew K. Thomas (Kunjumon), of Bardonia, NY, died peacefully at the age of 76 in his sleep on Monday March 29th, 2021 at Hackensack University Medical Center in Hackensack, NJ.  

Mathew (Kunjumon) was born on May 24th, 1944 in Manganam, Kerala, India. He was the fourth of six children to the late K.I. Thomas of Kanjirathumoottil House and Mariamma (nèe Mathai) Thomas of Kumbanadu House.

Surviving Mathew is his wife, Annamma, and his three daughters: Bindu, Beena (son-in-law Jackson) and Binu (son-in-law Jerry) and two grandchildren: Paul, and Benjamin. Also surviving are his siblings: his elder brother Joy, elder sister Ammani, and younger brother Somi. Remaining family includes 32 nieces and nephews from his siblings, and over 100 nieces and nephews from his wife’s siblings.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Mary Varkey and brother George K. Thomas.

Mathew and Annamma began their married life in Rajasthan, India.  After having three daughters, they had an opportunity to immigrate to the US in 1975. The couple moved to Rockland County, NY in 1977 from Brooklyn, NY and began raising their daughters who joined them from India in 1979.

After working in several companies, Pappa settled for a job close to home in Pearl River, NY at Lederle (Pfizer), a pharmaceutical company.  In the late 90’s, he dabbled in real estate and worked as a salesperson at a Nissan Dealership in Nyack, NY.

Pappa was all about family, friends, church, and community. He will be forever remembered for his strong faith in Christ Jesus, outgoing demeanor, drive to do the right thing, and as a generous, fun-loving and sharp-dressed man who will be greatly missed by his family and friends alike.  Above all, Mathew loved spending time with his family, especially his kids and grandkids. 

Wake and funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 3rd at 10:30am the at Tappan Reformed Church, 35 Kings Highway, Tappan, NY 10983 followed by burial at the Tappan Reformed Church Cemetery.
