Foley, Lorraine B. (Nevins)

Lorraine B. (Nevins) Foley died suddenly on November 18, 2021. Lorraine was born in New York City on June 14, 1935 to Isabel and Frank Holmes. She grew up in lower West side of Manhattan (the “Village”). Her girlfriends (sister-in-law) Dolores, Barbara and Rosemary were lifelong friends and played cards on the day her life ended.  

Lorraine married Patrick Gerard Nevins June 1954. Together they raised their boys in Bell Ans Park in Orangeburg. Patrick ‘Roddy’, a New York City Fire Department Lieutenant, died as a result of cancer in 1974 at the age of 43. Lorraine courageously raised her boys to adulthood. 

Lorraine met Patrick Michael Foley several years later.  They were married on December 6, 1986. Together, they called themselves, “the Dynamic Duo”. They enjoyed over 30 years together and their happiest days were spent with their families. Patrick was also a New York City Firefighter. He retired with the rank of Battalion Chief.  

Lorraine’s son Gerry was a member of Rescue Company 1, FDNY and was among the 343 Members of the FDNY who made the supreme sacrifice on September, 2001 at the World Trade Center. Together, Pat and Lorraine supported each other through that terrible time. 

Patrick passed away on May 8, 2021 and left an unfillable void in her heart. 

Lorraine had a big heart and many, many friends. She was fiercely loyal to those she loved. She made a difference in the many lives she touched Her strength in the face of adversity was inspirational to those around her. She was very close to all her grandchildren and lived vicariously through their adventures. Life dealt Lorraine many devastating blows. She never quit and never questioned her faith in God. 

Lorraine was predeceased by her parents and her stepfather Rocco Errichetti, her brothers Robert and George. Her first husband, Patrick Gerard and son Gerard. 

She is survived by her son Stephen (Carol), daughter-in-law Marie, stepson Thomas, and stepdaughter Linda. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, Nov. 23rd, 10am at St. Catharine’s Church in Blauvelt with burial to follow at Rockland Cemetery in Sparkill. Visiting hours will be Monday, Nov., 22nd, 4-8pm at the Moritz Funeral Home in Tappan.
