Franklin Hayward Knower Jr., a longtime resident of Tappan, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2020. He was born in Minneapolis, MN to Franklin and Ramona Knower on September 13, 1929. Frank attended Ohio State University and served in the US Coast Guard in the Great Lakes Region. In 1950, Frank began his career as a broadcast technician for CBS, starting in radio then moving to the television division. Frank was a past president of the NY State Fireman’s Chaplains Association, past president of the Volunteer Fireman’s Association of Hudson Valley, chaplain of the Tappan Volunteer Fire Department, and the Fire Police of the TappanVol. Fire Department. Frank was also a member of the Tappan Reformed Church serving as deacon and usher for many years.

He was predeceased by his wife Alene who past away in 1978 and his second wife, Betty Kuhn, who past away in 2012.

Frank is survived by his sons, Frankie Knower, Paul Knower and his husband Ed, Jon Knower, his stepson Bill Kuhn, and stepdaughters Susan DeMeo, Nancy Kranz. He is also survived by six step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren. Frank was also predeceased by his sister Ramona Davis.

A firematic graveside service will be held Saturday, Sept. 12th,11:30am at the Tappan Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Volunteer Fire Association of Tappan.
