OBITUARY

O'Connell. Frances Barbara

Blauvelt, NY - Tappan Location

Fran was born on July 29th 1943 in Harrisburg, PA and raised in Ellenville, NY by two hardworking loving parents and her older brother Micheal. After graduating with honors and a teaching degree under her belt from SUNY Oneonta she began her life passion of educating children in East Ramapo school district. Soon after she met the love of her life John, they were married on a very snowy day in November of 1969. In 1974, they welcomed their first and only child Johnny. They relocated to Blauvelt in 1979 where she continued her teaching career with the South Orangetown School District as a computer sciences teacher and being an outspoken advocate for children's education in the PTA. She then continued the rest of her professional teaching career as a beloved 5th grade teacher in Cottage Lane. She retired from being a school teacher in 2002 but never stop teaching and advocating for everyone she met. She couldn't resist the opportunity to continue helping others by volunteering with People to People in Nanuet up until she became ill in July. She passed peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones, in the early hours of Friday, September 18th, 2020. She is survived by her doting husband of over 50 years, John J O'Connell Jr., her son John J. O'Connell III, daughter in-law Tara O'Connell and brother Micheal Pavuk. She loved her family more than anything, including her in-laws, nieces, nephews and so many close friends. She was always positive and found the goodness in everything and everyone she touched. She will be dearly missed and we will always celebrate her life and light. There will be visiting hours and memorial service on Sunday, September 20th, 2020 from 3-7pm at the Moritz Funeral Home Tappan. Masks and social distancing will be required. In lieu of flowers, donations to People to People in Nanuet, NY (www.peopletopeopleinc.org) would be appreciated.
