Slavin, Betty Jane

Tappan, NY

Betty Jean Slavin, a longtime resident of Tappan, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2020. She was born in the Bronx on October 1, 1934 to Susan and Andrew Clark. She attended PS11 Elementary and graduated Walton High School, Class of 1953. For most of her early career, she was a bookkeeper for the New York Phone Company in Manhattan. Taking pride in always balancing their books to the penny. Next, a dedicated mom in charge of raising five children along with managing the finances for the family, which was no easy task in those days. She also found time to be a Girl Scout Leader for her daughters. She finished her career at The Parent Child Center in Palisades, NY. In retirement she enjoyed being a member of the Piermont Senior Club and the trips they would take; especially to Atlantic City.

Betty is survived by her children, Edwin Jr., Victoria Panteleakis and her husband Steve, Dorothy Rousseau, Raymond Slavin and his wife Jayne, and Elizabeth Margolis and her husband Eric; her grandchildren, Suzanne Dowd, Christine Colon, Stephanie Panteleakis, Eric and Michael Margolis, Grace and Dean Slavin and Faith, Emma and Bobby Rousseau.

Betty was predeceased by her husband Edwin Slavin.

She loved spending time with her grandchildren, dancing, reading, knitting and gardening.

A graveside service will be held Friday, 11am at F.W. Loescher Veterans Cemetery in New Hempstead.
