Wylde, Anne Marie

Sparkill, NY - Tappan Location

'Anne Marie Wylde (nee McGovern), 87, of Sparkill, NY passed away peacefully Saturday, May 23rd at Dellridge Health and Rehabilitation Center in Paramus, NJ.  Daughter of the late Patrick and Elizabeth McGovern (nee Leydon), Anne was born on February 27th, 1934 in Manhattan.
Anne was one of five children born to Patrick and Elizabeth, Irish immigrants who met and married in New York in 1930.  She was the second of four consecutive daughters, eventually followed by a son, James, who predeceased her in 2009.  The family spent many happy years together in their apartment located on the corner of 97th St. and Park Ave, where Anne grew up.  Bus rides accompanied by her sisters and friends up and down 5th Ave with her father Patrick, who was a driver for the 5th Ave. Coach Company, at the wheel were a highlight.  And, St. Patrick's Day was the event-of-the-year for the McGoverns as their place was only two blocks from the parade route and was the gathering spot for their extended family and friends.  Some of her older cousins would take Anne and her sisters to see the parade and they would all return to the 97th St. apartment to celebrate the holiday.

Anne was a graduate of Cathedral High School in New York.  After high school, she entered the convent joining the Sisters of Mercy, an order founded by an Irish Catholic laywoman, Catherine McAuley, who dedicated her adult life to serving the economic and spiritual needs of the many poor in early 19th century Ireland.  During and after her novitiate, Anne studied at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, NY where she received a bachelor's degree in library science.  She spent many years fulfilling her religious orders with the Sisters supporting and ministering to the community in Saranac Lake, NY.
After leaving the convent, Anne moved to Orangeburg, NY and became head librarian of the South Orangetown Middle School in Blauvelt NY.  She was always willing to make the extra effort to help her students, her nieces and nephews among them, and they appreciated and loved her in return.  While working at the Middle School, Anne met the love of her life, Daniel V. Wylde, who at the time was an electrical engineer for RCA at their Moorestown, NJ facility.  They married in 1976 and spent 32 joyful years together first in Elkins Park, PA and later in Voorhees and Manchester, NJ, until Dan's death in 2008.  While living in Manchester, Anne continued her career in educational library management for the Washington Township, NJ School District.  Upon leaving Manchester in 2016, Anne moved to the Dowling Gardens Senior Living Residence in Sparkill, NY where she resided until her death.

Anne devoted her life to her faith and her family.  She sacrificed much throughout her well-lived life and is now undoubtedly receiving her reward in Heaven.  She leaves behind family and friends who have benefited from her love, support and generosity and who will miss her dearly.  She is survived by her sister Kathleen Kelleher and husband Daniel, her sisters Mary Angelastro and Margaret Keaveney, and sister-in-law Susan McGovern, widow of her late brother, James, as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Catholic burial rites will be administered in the presence of immediate family.  A Mass and memorial service to celebrate Anne's life will be scheduled in the future.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Anne's name to the Tappan Library, 93 Main Street, Tappan, New York 10983.  Arrangements by Moritz Funeral Home in Tappan, NY.
